Instant Pot Vs. Power Pressure Cooker: Which One Suits You Best?

Each household has different needs, especially in the kitchen. For a household blessed with good cooking skills, one type of cooking appliance isn’t enough. The problem is, having all these appliances for cooking can be very impractical, especially if you don’t get to use all of them often. That’s why fast cooking all-in-one pots were invented; to serve the many cooking needs of a household. Out of all the all-in-one pots, there are two names that tower over everybody, the Instant Pot and the Power Pressure Cooker. Both appliances serve the same purpose, to cook faster and in different ways. But which one should you go for? Let’s take a look.

Instant Pot

The Instant Pot is a programmable pressure cooker that can cook different types of foods in different ways. You can even make yogurt with it  (yes, you read that right, yogurt!). Depending on the model you choose, the Instant Pot will serve the basic cooking needs of a household. For example, if you go for the Instant Pot Lux series, you can choose from 14 programmed modes. It does slow-cooking perfectly, plus it sterilizes and pasteurizes. All the models of Instant Pot available on the market are made of stainless steel and can be reprogrammed according to your needs. Aside from that, Instant Pots have different safety features that you just can’t find in other smart cookers. You can continuously monitor the pressure and temperature of the Instant Pot thru its LCD monitor screen. If you are talking about price, the Instant Pot goes from $100 to $140 on Amazon, depending on the model you choose. If you ask us, that’s a pretty decent price for a slow cooker that can do almost everything.

Power Pressure Cooker

The Power Pressure Cooker on the hand, is an electronic pressure cooker that has almost the same capabilities as the Instant Pot. You can also program it depending on what you want to cook. You can cook fish, meat, beans, vegetables and stews. Power Pressure Cooker boasts of a 70% faster cooking time than ordinary cookware. The secret of the Power Pressure Cooker is that it traps the steam inside to force the moisture and liquid inside the food you are cooking. This is why all the dishes you cook using the Power Pressure Cooker are rich in flavor. A Power Pressure Cooker goes for about $100 on Amazon, so it is pretty inexpensive.

Which One To Chose?

Having both in your countertop is basically impractical, because both appliances really do the same thing. In terms of design, the Instant Pot is a better choice mainly because it looks like more thought was put into it compared to the Power Pressure Cooker, which looks like an ordinary slow cooker. Plus, the Instant Pot has more smart features incorporated in its design than the Power Pressure Cooker. As for the cooking time, both cookware really don’t have any distinct advantage over each other. The difference is minute, give or take a couple of minutes or so to matter. So in this regard, no one really wins. For cooking variety, the Instant Pot clearly takes the lead as it can cook a lot more dishes than a Power Pressure cooker can. Ease of use is another matter. The Power Pressure Cooker is a simpler device to handle compared to an Instant Pot. Lastly, in terms of cost, the Power Pressure Cooker is the cheaper of the two, but not by a lot.

So, if you consider all these things, you can say that the clear winner is the Instant Pot. The Instant Pot can clearly handle a lot more dishes than the Power Pressure Cooker, which is really the main point of this comparison. Since there really isn’t any significant difference between the cooking time and the cost, we recommend you go for the Instant Pot. It is the better choice between the two.
